Scent Work

Intro to Scent Discrimination

This nosework class will last for 1-2 hours per session (2 dogs = 1 hr, 4 dogs = 1.5hr, 6 dogs = 2hr,) and will meet 5 weeks in a row to work on basic scent work for finding different scents and how to read and build their indications. Cost is $150 due on or before the start date of class.

Class is held in the Smores Activity Building at the KOA in Hammond. Classes are held indoors and masks will be mandatory for all participants. You will need to check in at the front office to get a parking pass on the first evening of class. Follow the signs that read SAB to find the Smores Activity Building.

If interested please complete a registration form on arnicadia.com. All questions should be directed to my e-mail (arnicadia@gmail.com,) my main page (Cati Foss,) or my phone 503-468-2559 (text and voicemail accepted!) My class size is limited to 6 dogs only and on a first come first served basis!

Make sure that you bring your standard leash (retractable leashes are not allowed,) a collar or harness your dog CAN’T escape from, plenty of training treats, and a slightly hungry dog that is willing to learn as well as making sure I can get a copy of your dog’s current vaccinations if I don’t already have them on file! All dogs must remain in a car, place, or crate at all times when not being worked, this is not negotiable!  All teams must maintain a distance of 6′ or more from each other at all times unless otherwise specified for safe social distancing.

As a note, this class is a foundational starting point for nose work or just for a fun activity for you and your dog! Non-aggressive dogs are welcome as they will not be allowed to interact at any point in time.

Intro to Tracking

This tracking class will last for 1-2 hours per session (2 dogs = 1 hr, 4 dogs = 1.5hr, 6 dogs = 2hr,) and will meet 5 weeks in a row to work on basic scent work for ground tracking. For Intermediate dogs, we will be working on visually mapping your course, scent articles, and some aging. Cost is $150 due on or before the start date of class.

Class is held outdoors in the fenced in field at Astoria Animal Hospital.

Make sure that you bring your standard leash or a 10’ long line that you don’t mind getting dirty (retractable leashes are not allowed,) a back clip harness your dog CAN’T escape from as well as an additional collar or harness that you normally walk them in, plenty of training treats and a slightly hungry dog that is willing to learn as well as making sure I can see a copy of your dog’s current vaccinations if I don’t already have them on file! All dogs must remain in a car or crate at all times when not being worked, this is not negotiable!  Please dress to walk in a variety of grass, plants, weeds (including thistle!) and for rain, wind, cloud, or shine as this class is exclusively outdoors!
